Hello all!  My name is Kaitlyn and I'm a 19 year old student at a University in New Jersey. I've been going randomly vegetarian for a few years now but I've never been able to stick to it. I've always wanted to live a meat free lifestyle but because I've never had the opportunity to really buy my own foods it's always been difficult. Lately though, and after some research and discussion with a vegan friend, I've been wanting to go vegan. I just watched an amazing documentary called Earthlings which I'm sure many of you have seen. I was moved to tears by the cruelty humans bestow on animals and I was angered at the indifference I once had for it. With all of this in mind, I have decided that I want to live a vegan lifestyle. I know that it'll be hard but in the end I'll not only be helping animals and the environment, but myself. My friend gave me a great list of vegan literature, movies, websites and so forth but any new stuff would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

In US, State Versions of AETA in the Works

The National Lawyers Guild has a new report on state-level versions of the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act that have been popping up around the country. As I’ve reported here previously, on laws such as the California Animal Enterprise Protection Act, they use sweeping, overly broad definitions of terrorism that are, in some cases, even worse than the federal law. (Here’s one of my all-time favorite blog posts in which a Tennessee lawmaker describes how similar legislation is needed to combat “left-wing eco-greenies.”
